Youth Camp South Bay History Project: Currently the "centerpiece project," it involves the efforts of the entire chapter board. The South Bay History Project is an oral history initiative that records the experiences of the Japanese American community of the South Bay prior to World War II, during WWII, and the resettlement period after WWII. The oral histories are linked from the History Project page.
Scholarship Programs: Our scholarship programs include the Kiichi Egashira Memorial Scholarship, Janice Kobata Zoeger Memorial Scholarship, and National JACL Scholarship. We would encourage all qualified students to apply for the 2009 scholarships offered by the South Bay JACL. Click here for more information about all of the 2009 scholarships.
Miscellaneous Activities: Annually, the chapter sponsors a Holiday Giving Project that provides monetary gifts to families in need through the Little Tokyo Service Center. On occasion the South Bay JACL hosts local government candidate forums, advocate outreach for civil rights issues affecting the community, teacher training workshops and other activities.
Each year the chapter selects officers to oversee its activities and board direction. The board consists of a president, vice president of programs, vice president of membership, vice president of civil rights, secretary, treasurer and board members at large.
